Through the way client side events are added through XPages it's a bit harder to call them from client side Javascript. If the onChange code is in an "onchange" attribute, you can simply call "dojo.byId('').onchange();". This does not work for events attached through methods like "XSP.attachPartial()", here use use the above function like this:

fireEvent(dojo.byId(''), 'change');

function fireEvent(element, eventName) {
	if ("fireEvent" in element) {
		// Up to IE 8
	    element.fireEvent("on" + eventName);
	} else {
	    var evt = document.createEvent("HTMLEvents");
	    evt.initEvent(eventName, false, true);
	    element.dispatchEvent(evt);
	} 
}
